Get your forks ready…

May 16th, 2005 by Thomas

Rachel’s dad Travis made and delivered an excellent bbq pit this weekend. He even threw in some ribs and a chicken for us! The inaugural meal of smoked chicken, ribs and beans was enjoyed by our friends Carrie, Jason, Ashley and Sam. Matt missed out.

Mmmm, Mmmm good. Our pit even has our own brand atop the smoke stack! Thanks Travis.

So, friends, next time you are in town, bring your appetite.

Byte bites the dust

May 14th, 2005 by Thomas

After struggling through the night of May 13th and the morning hours of May 14th, Byte Supercinski was laid to rest today in an emotional ceremony with family and friends at his side. Byte sustained mortal injuries after an escape from the friendly confines of his bowl he once shared with his swimming companion, Giga.

Initially, investigators suspected foul play by an angry band of hummingbirds who frequent a feeder near Byte’s bowl. After careful consideration, however, the hummingbirds were ruled out as investigators realized the birds did not have the ability or motive to open the sliding glass window separating the two and remove Byte from the bowl.

Greg Bonthrace, Senior Icthologist, noted, “Byte was a healthy, fun-loving fish prior to the injuries sustained during his tumble from the bowl and off the desk to the floor far below. Byte was, like so many fish, one with few words, and so his apparent depression and suicidal ideations had gone unnoticed by his family. Had we known something sooner, perhaps this tragedy could have been avoided with a simple screen over the bowl. We will miss his gentle spirit.”

Byte joined the Supercinski family as a result of the Meeks wedding in late March, 2005, and quickly won the hearts of visitors and kin alike. He brought several months of joy to those he knew, “He was always a good fish, never did he fight with his brother or complain,” said Byte’s adoptive mother, Rachel. Thomas, Byte’s adoptive father, choked with tears, replied, “No comment.”

Byte is survived by his adoptive parents, Thomas and Rachel Supercinski, his brother Giga, and many friends. In leiu of flowers, please send donations or flakes to the “Take a Byte out of Crime” Foundation.

A good “base” tan

May 12th, 2005 by Rachel

The pregnancy center where I volunteer is located next door to a Total Tan Salon. While volunteering, I have had the pleasure of catching many acquaintances going in to tan–most of them males I might add. Everyone rationalizes indoor tanning so that they won’t get a sunburn when they are out later. So here I am on my health soapbox again. Check out this article from MD Anderson about indoor tanning. Its interesting…

On Campus

May 11th, 2005 by Rachel

Today I went on campus to pick up a graduation hood for my genius friend Sonia, who is graduating with her MS in architecture tomorrow. It was the first time I’d been in there since last August, and the MSC has had some changes–and for the better! The whole long corridor from the sliding door entrance to the other side has been carpeted (which makes for a much quieter MSC) and the flag room renovations are complete. It looks really nice and modern, same old flags though. I was pleasantly surprised and it brought back so many memories of studying and hanging out with friends. I continued on this trip through memory lane and walked through the hotel lobby and recalled countless hours spent studying there and talking with my friend Blair. Then I journeyed outside to the fountains in the courtyard and recalled the summer evening we all walked there from Newport and stood in the fountains. Fun times! Outside I saw a group of shirtless, sweaty, middle-aged men who I think just finished a sport of some sort in the drill field. Their hairy guts reminded me of… this blog!

This Weekend

May 9th, 2005 by Rachel

The Supercinski’s had quite an eventful weekend. First, so many fun friends came into town and we got hang out with them on Friday evening. One of the best treats was that Funky V came all the way here from Colorado! Since we knew she was coming, we planned to “shower” her with gifts on Saturday. Here is a picture of her and Ross, he’s a little stiff, but I’m sure he will warm up to everyone soon.

Flat Flannel

Today is Matt G’s birthday. Happy 24th! We got to celebrate at his surprise party last night and busted a pinata on Erica’s face. Hey Matt, bring over some tops and we can play Battle TopsTM again!

We’re old

May 9th, 2005 by Rachel

Our friend Matt loves to joke about how “old” we are though young in age. As I am sitting here in Thomas’ office, we are getting all tickled about a hummingbird that has been regularly visiting the feeder we put up outside. He had been coming around for the flowers in the window box, but we figured the feeder would be more enjoyable, and it has! One of our tomato plants has two baby green tomatoes on it out in our “garden.” Its a garden of buckets, over yonder on the back porch. We have four, no three, green bean plants (one got murdered by grasshoppers) and three tomato plants. We’ve had some problems, but hopefully they will make some green beans and tomatoes. Yum! We’re thankful for duplex life, it affords so many luxuries…

Update - We have seen at least 3 hummingbirds making use of our feeder (and now feeders). They are quite belligerent and moody, dive bombs galore this afternoon as they fought each other. I guess the bird equivalent of crack cocaine will do that.
