5 Month Update (a little late)
Josiah is five months and 10 days old. Time goes by so quickly! We are enjoying our little boy so much. He is interacting with us more and more everyday and starting to play. His favorite game is peek-a-boo, which shows how much a child picks up through repetition, also known as training. Starting when he was a few weeks old, we would play peek-a-boo, or as we call it, “where’s Josiah? There he is!” Just cover his face with a burp cloth and let the fun begin. A few weeks ago, he started initiating play by picking up any piece of fabric nearby (his own clothes included) and covering his face and waiting a few “where’s Josiah”s to pick it up off it. When we say, “There he is!” he giggles and covers his face again. Isn’t he so smart?
Josiah is quite the mover and shaker. No crawling, but he can get all over his crib and his play area in no time. He can go around in a circle while on his back/stomach and roll all over the place. He’s surprisingly able to reach toys if we let him fuss for a minute. I’m apprehensive about the whole crawling thing–I’m sure he’ll be into everything soon enough. Josiah is really into faces these days and grabs ours if we let him get close enough. He is also in love with his reflection in the mirror and tries to make out with it if he can get his face against it.
This month has been a month of many firsts, or I guess the past week has been. He had his first solids (homemade rice cereal) and went to the pool for the first time. I think the sun was just too bright for his baby eyes, even though we shaded him as much as possible. I think we need to follow Helene’s lead and get some baby sunglasses.

Hey there, Supercinskis!
How did Josiah do with the rice cereal? In the picture he has pretty much the same expression Helene did the first time we stuck a spoonful of cereal in her mouth. She learned pretty quickly, though, and now she can seriously put the food away. Still no teeth to report on. Oh, and I have a bit of advice: enjoy your remaining weeks before Josiah starts crawling. Once he does, life gets a whole lot crazier!

What a cutie! Did any rice cereal make it to his mouth? Looks like most of it is on his face… I can attest to the making out with his reflection thing, he did that with Taylor’s mirror when he was over here. I guess he already knows what a little hottie he is!

What an amazing baby!! It really makes me want one for our very own…however, we are off to Scotland for a year, so Sander says we better wait. = )
Sander is being transferred for work for just a year to Aberdeen. We are very excited and feel it is God’s way of helping us fund our own mission trip to what we have heard is one of the darkest cities in the UK. It is the “Oil Capital of Europe” and is the 3rd largest city in Scotland with a whopping population of 200,000. We already have a church to be involved with and will be ambassadors for Houston’s First Baptist here as they work with the churches there to set up a yearly mission trip alliance. We are very excited and can’t wait to get there!
Hope life is wonderful with you and your growing, adorable family!

Aurelie,
The rice cereal is not his favorite. We introduced him to the wonderful world of pureed bananas and he loves them. He “hums” joyfully while he swallows them down. The rice he would leave in his mouth for several minutes with this look like, “and what am I supposed to do with this nastiness?” Bananas are savored and swallowed. We’re making progress!
