Spring Ramblings

After clearing out all the carrots from the garden, I blanched and froze them for later. Thomas built us two new garden beds, which we are using to try the square foot gardening method (hence the grid on the on bed–the wind was blowing really hard that day and they haven’t been nailed down yet). I got all the seeds planted yesterday, and we will begin hardening off our tomato plants soon. This is the before picture:

Hancock Fabrics in College Station is going out of business, so I stocked up on a lot really great material at discount prices. First, I am making some cloth napkins out of fabric that an acquaintance gave me that she didn’t plan to use. I ran out of thread, so Josiah and I will be making a trip to Walmart later for more and for prizes for my nutrition class I’m teaching at Hope. (Prizes are good incentives for keeping a food log and examining your diet). Josiah decided he is ready to only take one nap now, so we’re adjusting to a new routine.

All of our tulips and daffodils are blooming or have already bloomed. I’m so glad I planted so many–I love tulips! This is the backyard view, where most are blooming at the same time, the front yard, though prettier, has been more sporatic in their blooms.

One Response to “Spring Ramblings”

  1. I must say - my family have always been the “ones” who picked up other people’s garbage off the curb on trash day. There was no telling what my brothers would come home with. We go-carts, wheel chairs, and more stashed away on our back patio.

But, I have resorted to an all-time, but money-saving low. I now go to the community recycling places and pick up old newspapers that still have the coupon inserts in them. That way when items go on sale I’ll have more than one coupon and can get more than one “almost-free or free” item - all without having to buy numerous Sunday papers. Danny says saving money is my drug. It’s a sick addiction. But he’s not complaining.
