I am enjoying being the mom of a little boy entering toddlerhood. Some of Josiah’s favorite things lately are:

Balls - This kid can spot them (and balloons) everywhere. In the grocery store, every piece of fruit is a ball. The cantelope ripening on our counter is making him crazy, he wants to play with it so much. As we drive along the road that runs in front of Target, he starts yelling, “baaawww, baawwww” from the backseat. I don’t know if this is common for every Target, but ours has these giant red balls in front of the store, like to keep people from parking on the curb or just to get little boys to love their store, who knows. We seriously don’t go there very often as it is hard to visit without dropping $30, so I guess the balls are just that memorable.

Diggers and other construction equipment - Our favorite car activity is to spy diggers. Thankfully, there is a lot of construction going on around town, and we can see at least one on every trip. On the rare occasion that I am in a car without Josiah, I find myself disappointed that I have no one to talk to about the diggers I see. Now, he remembers where the diggers always are and hollars, “di-di” as we get close. Recently, Josiah and I were driving to collect eggs with a friend following me with her three girls in their car. After pointing out a slew of diggers, rollers, scrapers and dump trucks, I realized that the females in the car behind us were probably missing out on them completely. It’s funny how different boys and girls are already!

Birds - There are a few doves that live on our street and sing to us in the mornings, and one is always on the fence outside Josiah’s window. Sometimes, I can’t tell if it is Josiah making the dove noises or the actual doves, they sound so similar. Another of his favorite activities is to chase groups of birds. Daddy taught him this one.

Hugs and kisses - We are entering a phase of attachment where Josiah does not want me to leave his sight. This can be frustrating at times, but also a delight when I get so many hugs and tight squeezes around my neck. And who doesn’t love a nice open mouth kiss that is repeated ten times over?

We have been noticing the diggers around town (esp on 2818 and TX) and enjoyed watching them too!! Also, I completely know what you’re talking about with the balls at Target. Will used to always say “ball” when we went and wanted to touch all of them.
