Fashion Through the Years
I went on a cleaning spree last night, cleaning out closets and clothes to give away. I try to think, “Have I worn this in the past year? Is it really worth holding onto?” and if either is questionable or a no, it’s gone. I figure that if it doesn’t fit now, it probably won’t later. I ended up cleaning out three bags of stuff.
Some things were really hilarious to try on. These jeans are some of them. I wore these pants in high school, and I have a picture of me in them at my graduation party (sorry, no scanner). They still fit (yeah!), but the high waist makes them terribly uncomfortable. See for yourself.

Wouldn’t I be the coolest mom on the block if I wore that outfit in public?
The most humorous part about these pants is the tag. You see, circa 1999, these jeans were labeled as

Yes, you read that correctly, LOW RISE. A mere eight years difference, and those are the highest waisted mom jeans I’ve seen in a long time, yet labeled as low rise. Can you imagine how the non-low-rise jeans fit? For a bit of comparison, these are my 6 month old “boyfriend” cut jeans (read=not ultra low waisted so I don’t feel like my underwear are hanging out all day jeans) from the same store. Same shirt, no tuck.

Rachel, that is hilarious. Yeah, back in the day those would’ve definitely been low rise. I wonder if in 10 years we will be laughing at our current low rise jeans. I hope not! That’s about as low as I go!
Ha! That’s so funny! I’m with Kendra…I hope this is as low as they go, or I’ll need surgery to be able to wear jeans.
Ah, just as cute as you made it sound when you told me about it :)
