Pearls Before Breakfast
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
– from “Leisure,” by W.H. Davies
We ran across this article which is the result of a little ‘experiment’, involving commuters, a $3.5 million violin, and extraordinary violinist. Read the article, and if you find yourself thinking ‘This is SO long’, then the whole point of the article is just for you.
The Washington Post
Reading this article made me a bit sad, even a bit teary. I have no idea what that means.
I hope I don’t continue to so easily miss the beauty around me.
Wow - I saw this on the news last night and read the entire article. How fascinating and sad that our world is so self-involved and busy. It makes me want to throw out the tv and stock up on some good classical cds and books.
Laura,
Throwing out the TV will do wonders for your reading life (and thus your life). I said goodbye to the TV many years ago and haven’t looked back since.
Great Article. That is definitely a fear of mine, that I will become like so many and let beauty slip by me unnoticed.
“Slow down, you move to fast. You’ve got to make the moment last” — Feelin’ Groovy. Simon & Garfunkle.
This article reminded me that ONLY people who fear the Lord can stop and sit and rest.
“Be still and know that I am God.”
Although I love Classical music, and the pieces mentioned, I saw this article as outwardly appearing to be about classical music, but truly it is about literally stopping to smell the roses once in a while.
Are we so afraid of losing our jobs/friends/money that we would not stop and rest and help someone, or appreciate what the Lord has given us?
I pray that believers would set a shining example in a lost world.
