Ode to Hummus

I would eat you on a chip;
I would eat you as a dip.

I would eat you on a sandwich;
I would eat you if I had a twitch.

I would eat you on a carrot;
I would eat you listening to a parrot.

Because I eat you, I smell like garlic;
Oh well, let’s go for a frolic!

Yeah, that’s the end of the rhyme, and I’m sorry you had to endure it. I’m enjoying hummus so much lately; I can’t get enough! My favorite is the hummus-mozzarella-avocado-tomato sandwich on whole wheat bread. Yum! Since tahini is costing an arm and a leg these days, I’ve been using this recipe and enjoying it a lot.

    HHAAHAH! I’ll frolic with you and garlic any day. So weird, I was just posting about making hummus on the board just now. I agree whole heartedly about it’s deliciousness.

    Kathy,
    On a mom’s discussion board I am on, there are moms who love them. Most of them use cloth inserts instead of the flushables and really like the fit of the covers. I looked at them out of curiosity some time ago and using the flushable inserts would be really expensive ($2.40 a piece at Josiah’s age now and we would use at least 3-4 a day which is more costly than disposables.) It’s a great idea for someone who hates doing laundry, but it definitely wouldn’t be a money-saver. I personally would rather just shake the poop off into the toilet and wash everything than to have to swish it with a stick! :)

    Rachel,

    I tried to leave this comment before but I don’t think it got through. I just wanted to say thanks for all of your going green material! It’s really made me think about the products I use, and whether or not I really need them as well as whether or not they’re actually good for me. The other day I scrubbed my shower with a recipe of yours. I am never going back to comet! I loved being able to breathe and scrub without feeling like I’m giving myself lung cancer. And I loved knowing that I wasn’t washing harsh chemicals down the drain. Also, I bought some microfiber cleaning cloths in the automotive section. Great idea! They were $5.99 for 5 when in the house cleaning section it was $4.19 for one! And they worked really well. Up until this point I had pretty much been pushing dust around with a duster. Sorry, that this comment is really long but this has been a great encouragement to me! Thanks!

    Rachel-
    THIS is why we’re friends– because you love things like hummus. Jon called it “girl food” for so long. Then I find him sneaking some for a snack several times a day. I guess that’s what guys do after 2 1/2 years of marriage…they give in! ;0)
    Grape tomatoes dipped in hummus are particularly delightful!!
    Love, love, love-

    LOL Josh LOVES hummus. At mom’s events where I’m supposed to bring a dish, it’s the hummus (which Josh makes) that’s usually requested ;-) Hummus, cheese and advocado sandwiches are our regular road-trip food! Though I have to say, we buy the tahini…
