Nineteen Months Update
Since it was brought to my attention that I hadn’t posted a Josiah update, I figured I had better hurry before I got too far behind. I use these little updates to fill in his baby books, and I don’t want to miss a month. Anyway, Josiah is doing well and so are we. I haven’t taken many pictures this month, and I apologize for the poor quality, but we had “professional” photos taken this month so I don’t feel bad about it.
Josiah is communicating all of the time, even in his own special terms. For instance, if you ask Josiah what color something is, it is always “geen” unless it is a car and then it is probably white. Diapers are called, “poo-poos”, please is no longer “ffff” but “feease”, and finished is “all gone”. He still refers to himself as “ya-ya” no matter how much I try to work with him on it. He is consistently putting together two words and sometimes three. Three words tend to be things like, “bye bye Daddy car” or “bye bye big dog”, etc.
Some kids like to line things up in neat rows, but Josiah is a stacker of objects. Toys, food, you name it, he stacks it. He did half of this one on his own:
I found some wooden blocks and we spend lots of time making “tall tow” (towers) such as this one:
Josiah will let them stay up for days and never knocks them down on purpose, unlike any other toddler who knocks them down as soon as they come in the room. We have had lots of friends and family visiting this month, affording Josiah many opportunities to practice sharing. For the longest time, he thought sharing meant that the object in question would be given to him. I realized this when he would yank toys from other kids while yelling, “shawer!” (share). He understands now that it may mean he gives the coveted item to a friend. Now, on the way to a friend’s house I will say, “Josiah, we are going to Dean’s house to play with Dean. You are going to share Dean’s toys with him and not take them from him,” and so on. For the rest of the drive he will say (translated), “Dean’s house. Share! (Fake cry.) Dean! Share! (Fake cry.)” It is really hilarious, and so is he. Here is is with his pal Jude who came to play a few weeks ago:
And lastly, a brief highlight video:

How cute! Jacob had that same striped shirt when he was little. It was one of my favorites. They grow so fast!

Oh, and if anyone has seen those Reef flip flops he was wearing in the video, let me know. He had them on the other day and they have disappeared–two whole shoes, vanished! I’ve looked everywhere…

Ah, another Josiah video. Now I can look on the computer for an extra minute and forty seconds
His speech really has become a lot more clear this month. It will be fun to see what month 20 brings!

Rachel!!
We just LOVED seeing big boy Josiah!! We had a blast at your place last week! Thanks so much for letting us stay and play with all the fun toys!
AND we love the Mei Tai carrier!!! We’ve already used it a couple times this week!
So…since you are my resource on SO many things, I’m wondering if you could list a few good baby books. We’re looking for some for Jude that are paperback and you seem to be in the know about good ones! Could you send me a list or put a post up about some? Maybe even just good authors?
Thanks Rachel!
