Let’s tap the potential

Friends

I have this little group of friends that has been a tremendous help on this journey to motherhood. I seriously don’t know what I would have done without these amazing ladies. Some days, they have been the only adults I’ve spoken with all day, listened to me cry over silly things, and encouraged me with truth and perspective. They have been wonderful friends, walking buddies, and playdate hostesses. I’m so thankful for them! We’ve been hanging out together for over a year now, and this is our first picture of us moms together, minus one, and plus one extra person in the picture. Anyway, if you’ve spoken with me and asked what Josiah and I do all day long, you’ve probably heard of these ladies.

Around Town

October 22nd, 2007 by Rachel

Since we’ve all been plagued with coughs and colds this week, we decided to stay close to home last weekend and headed to the Children’s Museum Fall Festival for some fun. Josiah was a little young for most of the activities, but he didn’t know it, and he had a great time (until he lost it at the end). His highlight was seeing a real-life fire engine! If you’ve spent much time at our house, you’ve probably had the privilege of reading him one of his fire engine books. Funny side note: when he wore his coat for the first time today, he told me it was like Holly’s daddy’s–the fire fighter in one of his books, of course.

And painting the VW Bus. He really enjoyed this, and amazingly didn’t get any paint on his clothes.

Twenty Months Update

Sticking cereal to his nose

Josiah has been so much fun this month. I’m not sure if the tantrums are lessening, or if I am just getting used to them, but life seems to be a little easier these days, and I am thankful. He is constantly jibber-jabbering and tells me all about things after we see them. In preparing this month’s video, it was amazing to see how much clearer he is speaking in just the past month. He is consistently putting together three word “sentences” such as “Momma read it,” “Ya-Ya take it,” “Momma get it” and so on.

Some of Josiah’s favorite things this month were construction equipment, books, trains, being “fast”, and going around in circles and making himself dizzy. He is starting to “read” some of his books along with me. He does the best with “Moo, Baa, La, La, La” by Sandra Boynton, we even recited it in the car today. It amazes me how much he remembers and holds in his little brain. He knows what two means and accurately tells you when he sees two of something. He also started “singing” his ABCs, or, as he says it, “A, B, C!”

(That picture shows Josiah’s mischievous face, as he knows he isn’t supposed to stand in his dump truck–it dumps)

We spend many mornings playing at parks after we walk. Josiah can go down the slides by himself now, even the big, fast, scary one that I think is big and fast. He enjoys digging in rocks and sand and scooping it up with his “tools” into buckets. He will also spend lots of park time throwing a ball, chasing it, and kicking it around. It makes for a red-faced, sweaty boy, but what fun!

That’s about all I can think of to share. I hope you enjoy the video, he was being very funny this month! Note that with Josiah these days, his no is no and his yes is also no. Just watch. You’ll see him giving “fast hugs”, chattering, and goofing around. Enjoy!

Mini Roadtrip

October 11th, 2007 by Rachel

Last weekend, we headed down to Bastrop for my sister’s graduation celebration at my dad’s house. It was a great time hanging out with family, as I can tell by the lack of pictures taken. Josiah saw two sets of grandparents, three aunts, one uncle and lots of friends. We were amazed at how much better he did traveling in the car since he was so excited to go to Pa’s House (and we purchased a new matchbox-type helicopter for the drive). Here he is with Pa on the swing:

And his favorite thing, besides chasing the outside cat and trying to catch her kittens, was “riding” the tractor. I’m going to have this one printed as I’m sure it will be treasured by Josiah.

Long Time, No Blog

October 8th, 2007 by Rachel

Things have been a little busy here at the Supercinski household. Busy means that blogging falls to the bottom of the pile and only comes back up if it’s time for a Josiah update. It is time for an update, but I don’t have time to edit a video. I’ve got laundry to do and a kitchen to clean, sorry.

What have I been so busy doing that I can’t blog? Well, first, I was organizing this event and it kept me busy for a while. It’s over and it went off splendidly. Then, we had these sweet friends come and stay with us for several days. Who can blog when there are friends like these to hang out with?

And lastly, I’ve been cramming every spare moment (when I am not caring for Josiah, our home, and spending time with my dear husband) into reading and completing academic requirements for The Bradley Method teacher training. (The Bradley Method is the childbirth method we used with Josiah.) I will be attending training in Dallas in November and have much to prepare before going. I’m off to fold some laundry!
