Halfway There!
I am officially 20 weeks this week, so that means I am about halfway through this pregnancy. I have been experiencing a lot of hip and back pain this pregnancy, but between the chiropractor and my heat bag, I’m making it! I am still throwing up most mornings, but went two days in a row earlier this week without it. I stopped getting sick with Josiah at 23 weeks. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, and it really isn’t a big deal anymore, the sickness doesn’t last long in the mornings and I am well the rest of the day.
Most days, I think that New Baby is really easy-going compared to Josiah. However, I am not still nearly as much as I was with him. If I sit still for a long time, like on a recent car trip, I see that this isn’t the case. New Baby favors kicking and punching down low, just like his/her brother, I just don’t notice it in all the hub-bub of our day-to-day.
And I am gigantic. Seriously, can someone please console me with a picture of them this big at 20 weeks? And not if you are having/had twins… I can’t stop thinking that there could possibly be two babies in there, but I know that many women worry about this and twins aren’t *that* common. I think I need to break down and get an ultrasound though just so I stop thinking about it.
Enough rambling! Here are some self-portrait belly shots. I’ve officially outgrown two maternity shirts already and I (sadly) think this one is on it’s way out too!
A comparative photo of Josiah at 25+ weeks is available here.

Oh, Rachel! You look so cute though! I can’t believe you’re still sick at 20 weeks - I hope it ends soon for your sake. Hang in there!

Hey, that’s my shirt :). You look great! I think that you can’t underestimate the power of those formerly together ab muscles!

I will refrain from showing you my picture at 20 weeks…you can find it on my blog if you really want to. But I think you look great!

Megan, I love the shirt, by the way, but I think I’ve almost outgrown it, along with that other cute green one you loaned me. Boo. It’s funny because I was helping a friend (third pregnancy) see if she had an abdominal wall separation (I felt it because she complained of feeling unsupported, and I’m not saying it was separated until her doctor confirms it
), but she is barely showing and only a week behind me!
Jess, I went through your archives, thanks for reminding me. I’m not so consoled. I lifted my shirt and had Thomas check, and he agrees that we’re about the same size. We’ll see how I measure next week at my appointment and I’ll stop talking about it until then!

you’re so big! (in a great way!)

You look beautiful!
I looked the biggest for my second even though I gained the least amount of weight for her. But she weighed 10 lbs. 2 oz., so that’s probably why!

Rachel,
I remember thinking when you were pregnant with Josiah that you were literally one of the most beautiful pregnant women I had ever seen. I still think that! You are glowing and radiant.
My belly was tons bigger with Laney Rae than it was with KK. And they ended up being about the same size. I think when our bodies recognize what is happening for the second time, it doesn’t even fight it at that point. It just relaxes and enjoys the ride! Ha!
I totally sympathize with the sickness. I threw up every morning with KK for almost 8 months (she can 6 weeks early so that means the entire time for me). It is a bummer especially when you have a little one there right beside you. KK would get me towels and wet them and pat my face and say sweet things while I was visiting the toilet.
Thanks for the belly shot!

Rachel…
I try to take as few pictures of myself pregnant as I can, so I can’t prove anything…but for a second pregnancy I don’t think you’re that big. It’s just well, as has been said earlier, your body knows what it’s doing this time around. If peace of mind is worth it for you, go for the ultrasound.
Also, you have one of those maternity belts right? They’re great for back pain. In case you don’t have one, I got mine at Motherhood Maternity. Don’t know if they’ve put one of those in CS yet or not, but there’s one here, or I’m sure you could order it online.
And to comfort you more, I outgrew a lot of clothes…in my FIRST pregnancy!
Blessings,
Corrie

You look just the way you are supposed to!!!!
And that is fantastic!!!! And your attitude is so good, especially with the discomforts you are feeling. (And itt can’t be two babies - you’d be much bigger I think if it was! Even if there *were* two babes, I know you’ll be able to handle whatever God has planned for you like a champ!!!!)

Rachel-
You look awesome!! You are the kind of pregnant lady that makes all the other women jealous! You carry teh baby straight out and nothing else gets bigger! Be thankful.
So happy for y’all!

You look so great, Rachel. Such a cute bump! I am much bigger this time too. I was comparing belly shots and at 29 weeks this pregnancy my belly looks the same size it did with Ellie at 36 weeks. Today I wore a maternity shirt that I wore with Ellie the last month and it was constantly riding up and exposing my belly!

Hey Rachel - I know others have told you this, but I was pretty big during the 2nd time around… I’m not sure if that’s God’s way of preparing the big brother-to-be or just a reminder that He made the little guy or gal inside of you to be special! My doctor told me the second child is usually half a pound bigger than the first. It didn’t happen that way for us, but I think that’s only because I sat and ate lots of M&Ms when pregnant the first time. If I had done that the second time, I would have had to share M&Ms with a 1 year-old.
