It’s What’s For Dinner

August 14th, 2008 by Rachel

A few weeks ago, we got the quarter of a grass-fed cow we ordered and had processed. Our freezer is overflowing with ground beef, steaks, roasts and cuts of beef I’ve never prepared before.

So far, it is delicious. You can read more about some reasons why we chose grass-fed beef here. We were pleased with the service and price we got from this local farm, so I’m happy to recommend them.

All His Ducks in a Row

August 13th, 2008 by Rachel

Josiah has a new hobby - lining things up and sorting things. Toys, food, stickers, crayons, and such have all been sorted and arranged methodically of late. He used to enjoy lining up his cars, but now everything is lined up. Some examples as I walked through the house (I am often stumbling upon other discoveries–carrots on his dinner plate, crayons on the table, etc.):

You will notice that all of the “baby” animals are in another animal’s lap:

These animals are all sorted by type and arranged around the table.

There is a long line of cars here you can’t see, and the rest are stacked on blocks making “car transporters.”

I have only ever heard of one other kid doing this all the time, so is this “normal” or a sign of genius? ;) You should see the way his face brightens up when I pull out a stack of cards and suggest we line them up.

It’s a totally separate deal

When asked if he was concerned about who might be next elected to the U.S. presidency, John MacArthur replied:

I’m not concerned about that for 5 seconds. It has nothing to do with the kingdom of God - absolutely nothing to do with it. The Lord will build his Church; I’m concerned about his Church. I’m concerned about the name of Christ, the gospel, the glory of God, the purity of the Church, the clarity of the teaching of the word of God. Jesus said it as clearly as it could be said when he said to Pilate, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight.’ His kingdom has nothing to do with this world. You could argue that the Roman power was oppressive, and even deadly, as indicated in Luke 13 when Pilate’s men went in and sliced up the Jews who were worshiping in the Temple. You can make the case that Jesus should have done something to obliterate slavery, or overturn Roman oppression, and free the people of Israel. It has nothing to do with that - ‘My kingdom has nothing to do with that. My kingdom is not of this world.’ Obviously, as a human being, I would like to see someone who is moral; I’d like to see someone who is a Christian have an opportunity to influence things from a viewpoint of Christianity. But this has nothing whatsoever to do with the advance of the kingdom of God. I am much more concerned about the kingdom that is not of this world than the kingdom that is America.

Right On!

Hot Fun in the Summertime

August 1st, 2008 by Rachel

It’s really, really hot outside. Since I am in no place to take a newborn and toddler to the public pool, we have found some fun ways to cool off and socialize at the same time, thanks to our local municipalities.

Sometimes when we go to the splashpads, Josiah barely gets wet. Whatever. He takes the job of turning it back on when it turns off very, very seriously.

He gets all red-faced and sweaty when he gets hot, very much like me and very unlike his barely sweating, never red-faced father.

Here we are with quite a few of our friends one day–it looks like the moms are sorely outnumbered.
