- The Hidden Link Between Factory Farms and Human Illness – The 111-page report, two years in the making, outlines the public health, environmental, animal welfare and rural livelihood consequences of what they call “industrial farm animal production.” Its conclusions couldn’t be clearer. Factory farm production is intensifying worldwide, and rates of new infectious diseases are rising. Of particular concern is the rapid rise of antibiotic-resistant microbes, an inevitable consequence of the widespread use of antibiotics as feed additives in industrial livestock operations.

- Clothing and the Character of the Child – By this point, a good many readers have likely identified me as some sort of development-squelching fundamentalist prude. I’ve heard the protests before, as a pastor, children’s minister, and youth minister—more from parents, oddly enough, than from children: “Come on, it’s just the kids’ clothes. Why make such a big deal about it? Let them wear what everyone else is wearing! If we don’t let them dress that way, they won’t be able to fit in.”
i just read the article on character and clothes choices. such a well written and carefully thought out article. when dylin was a baby, i wanted so badly to buy her one of those baby bikinis. i thought it would be so cute to have her big belly poking out. but her daddy wisely vetoed the idea. he stated that if we allow these things now, when do we teach that it is no longer appropriate? it’s best to train up that way from the beginning.
on another note, my husband is a youth pastor- i’d love to mail this out to all of our parents!
bless you :)
